The first malicious app entered Google Play on 28 August. It was registered as POLONIEX by the developer Poloniex. Despite the large number of negative reviews, 5000 users managed to install the application by September 19.

The second application is called "POLONIEX EXCHANGE". It was published by the POLONIEX COMPANY on October 15th and has already been removed. 500 people managed to install it.



Both applications follow the same pattern. First, they show a page to enter the exchange, where they ask users to provide a login / password. At this stage, users who do not use two-factor authentication give hackers access to their account. This is enough to carry out transactions, change settings and passwords.

After that, hackers need to get access to the user's mail in order to erase information about the transactions. For this purpose, the user is issued a warning, in which he is asked to undergo additional verification by logging into his email account..

And finally, so that the user does not suspect anything, the application redirects him to the mobile version of the real site, which will open with each subsequent launch of the malicious application..

If you have a similar application installed on your mobile phone, first uninstall it. After that, change your passwords to Poloniex and in your email.
